"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3
I want to understand what it means to be poor in spirit in the context that it is used in the verse above, I welcome all interpretations of it's meaning.

I think that the verse as a whole means that blessed are those who feel that their relationship with God and their godliness isn't sufficient as this will lead them to seek God more and know that it is Him in them that completes them and not themselves.So the 'poor in spirit' are those pple and they are blessed because they gain more from God.Fiona
